Family set up a hidden camera in their elderly grandma's senior home room, caught a worker stealing her 92yr old mothers money

A CRUEL carer stole cash from a 92-year-old’s handbag, as her stunned family watched on hidden cameras.

Lorraine Cenci, 44, left the elderly victim, who suffers from osteoporosis, on the toilet as she took two £20 notes from her bag.

The victim’s niece, Debi Riley, and her husband, Danny, watched the sick theft live from cameras they had disguised as speakers.

They called the police after witnessing the heartless act.

Mrs Riley, 52, who cares for her aunt, said: "My aunt doesn't know about it and she's not going to know. She would never trust a carer again if she found out. It would absolutely mortify her.”

The family set up the sting operation at the victim’s Enfield home when £210 went missing on three previous occasions.

They set up cameras and even wrote down the notes' serial numbers to nab the thief, who has now been fired from her job at SureCare.

The family paid up to £1,500 per month for the carer service.

Mum-of-three Cenci avoided jail when she was her 18-week prison sentence was suspended for 12 months at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Monday.

he was also to carry out 80 hours unpaid work, pay back the £40 in compensation, and £165 in costs.

The court heard how Cenci justified the theft as a "moment of madness" to fund a Mother's Day dinner.

Sentencing Cenci, District Judge Julia Newton said: "It was an abuse of trust on one of the most vulnerable members of society.”

Cenci, wearing gold hooped earrings and a black jacket, only spoke in court to confirm her details and to plead guilty to one count of theft by employee.

In a statement a SureCare said: "We suspended the care worker in question as soon as we became aware of the allegation and subsequently dismissed her for gross misconduct.

"We also informed all of our staff that such behaviour will not be tolerated."
