Mexicans throughout Mexico celebrated Easter with an asinine ritual that calls for the “burning of political figures.” This year they burnt effigies of Donald Trump.
The photos were made available by Rueters. The snap shots were taken in the La Merced neighborhood, where hundreds of rowdy Mexicans screamed “death to Trump” and other hate-filled-calls as they watched the explosion of the papier-mâché figure representing the GOP frontrunner.
It was not an isolated event. Reports of Trump effigies being burned across Mexico were plastered throughout Mexico’s media outlets.
The burning is part of a widespread Mexican Holy Week tradition where neighborhoods burn effigies to represent Judas, who betrayed Jesus Christ according to the Bible.
