Fiery wreck in East Texas city- Tyler police have released dashcam video of a driver being rescued from a fiery wreck on Christmas Day.
Dashcam video shows police rescuing the driver, who was trapped inside his pickup after his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler.
When the first officers arrived they found that the pickup was stuck underneath the eighteen-wheeler and was on fire. The driver of the pickup was unresponsive and pinned in the vehicle.
Officers battled the fire with handheld fire extinguishers and were able to keep it under control long enough to remove the driver of the pickup from the burning vehicle.
ETMC EMS and Tyler Fire Department personnel arrived on scene and provided medical attention to the driver, along with fire control.
The pickup truck driver, Darrus Evans, 46-year-old male from Tyler, was transported to ETMC with significant injuries and is currently considered in serious condition. The eighteen-wheeler driver was not injured.
The accident was found to be the result of a non-contact vehicle pulling out in front of the semi and causing the driver to take evasive action. This put him into the path of the pickup truck, which was unable to avoid a collision.
The non-contact vehicle did not stay on scene and is currently unknown.
