Midwestern skies were lit up by a breathtaking meteor that caught the eye of hundreds in the early hours of Monday morning.
Footage captured by a Lisle, Illinois, police dashcam shows the jaw-dropping moment the glowing meteor soared across the sky.
More than 100 people reported sightings around 1:30am, primarily in the Chicago area, but it was also seen in Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri and Ontario, Canada.
Meteorologist Jeff Last of the National Weather Service's office in Green Bay, Wisconsin, says the meteor was accompanied by a sonic boom that shook houses in the region.
Last says radar shows the meteor passing over Lake Michigan, but he said it's not clear if it landed in the water or if it broke up in the sky.
