This is the terrifying moment a thug threatened people with an axe as they tried to stop him stealing a bike in broad daylight.
The thief was spotted cutting a sign off a pole in a car park at Virgin Media in Wythenshawe so he could lift a bicycle and slip the lock and chain over the top to steal it.
But he didn't know he was being filmed.
One worker, who did not want to be named, caught the thief on camera as he set about stealing his bike.
When a security guard tried to grab the handlebars and stop the man getting away with the mountain bike, the masked thug lunged at him with his axe, appearing to threaten him.
The footage then shows the man continuing to attempt to lift the bike up the pole.
When another man approaches him, the thief lifts his axe again, appearing to threaten him.
The man then gets on the bike and rides off, seemingly unaware he had been filmed and seen by dozens of workers.
Police were called following the incident in the Virgin Media car park at Concord Business Park on Threapwood Way at around 2.40pm on Wednesday.
The worker who took the video said crime scene investigators were deployed to comb the area for evidence.
His footage has also been sent to police.
He said: 'I've had plenty of bikes stolen over the last few years, its annoying but not much can be done you just accept it. When it escalates to people being threatened with weapons though more needs to be done to find them.
'The security guard and lad who stepped in were really brave to do so and apologised to me for not stopping him. I'm just glad nobody got hurt at the end of the day.
A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the scene at around 2.40pm - and confirmed detectives are investigating.
