Dramatic moment school pupil is stopped from leaping off balcony

This is the dramatic moment a suicidal student in China is stopped from jumping off a fourth-storey balcony by a fellow pupil.

Video footage shows the two boys, from the southern city of Guangzhou, wrestling against metal railings as the incident unfolds.

The suicidal boy is pulled down from the barrier by his waist as a teacher dashes out to help remedy the situation.

Apparently the boy was moved to suicide after having his phone confiscated during class.

Thanks to his quick-thinking friend, he was saved from peril.

After less than 15 seconds, things calm down and the student steps away from his jumping point.

A spokeswoman from the Guangzhou Xiangjiang Secondary School confirmed that the incident took place on campus after the teacher confiscated the boy's phone.

The decision was in line with school policy, which forbids pupils from using their personal mobile devices during class time.

In light of the scare, the unnamed boy's family was called in to speak to the staff.

Apparently the pupil was transferred to another school following the event.
