Cleveland 911 dispatchers answered nearly 300 more calls on Easter than the previous Sunday, thanks to the Facebook murder of 74-year-old Robert Godwin.
The retiree was shot dead by an unhinged stranger, 37-year-old Steve Stephens, in a video that was uploaded to the social media site.
Dispatchers say when the first calls started coming in, they weren't from people near the scene of the crime, but from those who watched the disturbing clip online - some as far away as California, according to Fox 8.
One man who had actually witnessed the shooting from a home across the street called in and was asked if he could administer medical aid.
The man did not appear hopeful, saying it looked like the man was shot in the head or the ear area.
'He's unconscious. He's dead,' he said.
Dispatchers struggled to keep up with the calls, some of which were from people who just wanted to check in to see if the suspect had been caught.
'Ma'am, ma'am, ma'am, I got about a 100 911 calls about this,' a dispatcher told one woman who called in.
Meanwhile, the search for Stephens has entered a third day and a new disturbing report is shedding light on his dark personality.
