Dramatic moment drinker attacks landlady in pub beer garden

A landlady was violently punched and throttled by one of her customers when she went outside to speak to him about being disruptive.
The shocking attack on grandmother-of-six Gill Mathews by a male customer was captured on the pub's CCTV, after she went into the garden to confront him about misbehaving in her pub on Sunday afternoon.
The 54-year-old, who runs The Waggon and Horses in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was left with bruising to her nose, neck, back, and left leg after the being shoved to the ground and hit with a left hook.
Another woman, who was present at the time of the attack, was also caught on the face by his punch.
Ms Matthews, who has managed the pub for a year, said: 'It was so frightening. It all happened so quickly and I didn't really have time to think about it.
'I had my hands in my pockets and I was just doing my job as a landlady, asking why he was mouthing off in my pub.
'It's bad enough to hit a woman, but this is the sort of threat we all face working in licensed premises. I've had enough of it: I won't stay silent anymore.
'It was fairly quiet for a Bank Holiday Sunday, same as it was last year, and my staff said this bloke had been coming in effing and jeffing so I went out to see him.
'As I walked over he sprung up and started shouting at me quite aggressively.
'Out of nowhere he just put both hands around my neck and pushed me to the floor. He grabbed me again and throttled me, then a few moments later he punched me.
'He managed to hit the other woman too with his follow-through. He's a nasty fella. He's taken umbrage with me for trying to keep my pub in order.
'I've been in the licensed trade a long time and never experienced anything like that.'
The shocking incident was caught on camera by the pub's CCTV.
After the initial confrontation, the attacker then chased Gill back into the building, where she quickly called police.
Ms Matthews said: 'I was just in shock. I told the staff and customers inside what had happened and they couldn't believe it.
'By the time they went outside to look for him, he was gone. I think he realised that some of the cars turning the corner had witnessed it.
'He punched me to the side of the head so I've got a lot of redness there and a sore nose, which was bleeding at the time, but I didn't go to hospital.
'It's also put my back out because I fell so hard on the table, but I won't let him scare me.
