A man was beaten by a gang of hooded thugs who stormed into a McDonald's and chased him into the kitchen in a random attack.
Customers and staff were terrorised when up to six men walked into the fast food outlet in Caroline Springs, Melbourne, about 8pm on Friday.
Security camera footage shows the 21-year-old victim flee into the kitchen before he was cornered by three of the men, who attacked.
He was first punched in the head and covered his face with his arms, but a second man came in from his left side and landed a flurry of blows to his body.
The young man collapsed to the floor where he was repeatedly kicked by the second and third man while the first looked on.
The gang them calmly turned and walked out of the kitchen, while their victim lay in pain on the floor.
'It’s totally unacceptable, it’s not something that we expect to see,' witness Karen Sadler told 9 News.
'There was police everywhere, there were lots of groups of kids crying.'
In another part of the CCTV footage, some of the gang were seen at the McDonald's counter shouting at staff and gesturing aggressively.
The victim and his 18-year-old friend arrived earlier to eat but were targeted by the attackers.
Both men were injured and taken to Sunshine Hospital with minor bruises and grazing.
Their assailants fled on to Caroline Springs Boulevard.
McDonald’s said it was assisting police with their investigation and the safety of its staff and customers was its 'number one priority'.
