He's known as one of the AFL's most formidable figures, but Lance Franklin more than met his match during the Sydney Swans' round 6 clash with Brisbane on Sunday afternoon.
Late in the third quarter Franklin and Lions defender Nick Robertson came together away from the ball, leading to the star forward being thrown to the ground.
Franklin appears to initially jab Robertson, before being thrown to the ground and repeatedly having his head slammed into the SCG turf.
Buddy eventually scrambles to his feet before several Swans and Lions players run in to diffuse the situation.
Hawthorn legend and Fox Sports commentator Dermott Brereton defended the 21-year-old Robertson, saying Franklin 'copped what he's given'.
The Swans star was handed a free kick as a result, allowing him to kick his sixth goal of the day.
Fans were outraged at the umpires decision to award Franklin the free kick despite him throwing the first shot.
'So Franklin jumper punches Robertson but he gets the free, quality umpiring', one displeased observer tweeted.
The incident will be scrutinised by the match review panel, with both players facing time on the sidelines.
A punch carries a minimum one-week suspension, which may rule Franklin out for Sydney's must-win clash with North Melbourne.
It was the only time Brisbane were able to get on top of the Swans superstar as Franklin kicked 8 goals, helping Sydney to a 54-point win, their first of the season.
The victory means the Swans leapfrog the Lions off the bottom of the ladder.
