Fury has been sparked after a woman harassed a fellow Muslim shopper who let her into the queue at Trader Joe's.
In a video filmed at the grocery store in Reston, Virginia, an unnamed woman says she let the harasser in front of her and her friend because she seemed to be in a hurry.
Soon afterwards, the woman began making comments about the way Muslim women were dressed in the store and asked them about why they weren't dressed similarly.
When the shopper began filming her, asking her about her behavior, she was told: 'I wish they didn't let you in the country'.
A friend of comedian Jeremy McLellan, who wishes to remain anonymous, says she and her friend were on the queue at the grocery store when a woman got on behind her.
Because she seemed to be in a hurry, the two friends let her go ahead of them.
The woman then started 'talking bad' about another Muslim shopper in the store who was wearing a niqab - a veil for the face that leaves the area around the eyes uncovered.
The shopper asked the friend why she wasn't covered up, who replied that it was a choice.
When the shopper said that she didn't believe her, filming began.
'I shouldn't have let you in front of me,' the Muslim shopper says as she begins filming.
After a long pause, the hurried shopper says: 'I wish they didn't let you in the country'
'Excuse me?' she replies. 'I was born here.'
'Oh you were? Okay,' the shopper with the gray sweater says.
After another long pause, she resumes the conversation.
'Obama's not in office anymore. We don't have a Muslim in there anymore,' she comments.
'Yeah...I wish he was,' the Muslim shopper says.
'Well, he's gone. He may be in jail too in the future,' the other woman tells her, rolling up her sleeves.
Incredulously, the Muslim shopper asks: "You look a little crazy, maybe you need to get some help.'
'Oh, I'm fine,' the woman says.
"No you're not, because you don't just strike up a conversation with people in line talking about stuff like that if you're normal,' the shopper tells her.
'I'm very normal,' the gray-dressed woman insists.
'Looks like it, I can tell,' the Muslim shopper replied before filming stops.
The video was uploaded to Facebook yesterday and has since received more than 615,000 views and more than 9,600 shares.
Commenters seemed just as appalled at the behavior.
'Whoa hold on there. So a Muslim gave her a place in line and she proceed[ed] to talk s**t about Muslim[s]? That is just f****d up,' one person wrote.
This is not the first incident of Muslim women recording their harassment.
In January, Asthma Elhuni filmed a man who began taking pictures of her as she sat inside a coffee shop in Atlanta
After reprimanding him for his behavior, he began asking her if she had a green card and then called her a 'b***h'.
