One hungry crocodile has taken its strict carnivorous diet to the extreme after sinking its teeth deep into a hapless fellow reptile.
Three Darwin locals approached on the East Alligator River to what seemed to be the aftermath of a battle to the death between the river-dwelling rivals.
The fascinating clip shows the victorious animal plunge its razor sharp teeth into the three-metre carcass and death roll its companion, slamming it back into the water.
The macho display was filmed five kilometres downstream of Cahills Crossing on the fishermen's first visit down the river.
Virginia resident James McDonald revealed to NT News his amazement when spotting the crocodiles at the side of the river.
'We saw a dead croc floating down and saw the head behind it and we're like "oh s*** look at that".'
During their trip they had previously passed the hungry crocodile, who had been chomping on the legs of the carcass, and on their return around midday, the large reptile rose to the occasion for the delighted onlookers.
'It seemed like he was trying to protect it, he death rolled it a couple of times,' Mr McDonald revealed.
'I'm guessing he left it to rot to make it easier or something but it had been dead for a while.'
