Following Democrat Jon Ossoff’s loss in the Georgia Sixth District special election, some Democratic lawmakers took aim at the party’s messaging and leadership, claiming that the defeat proved that a new direction was needed. Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) claimed that not only was House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi more toxic than President Donald Trump in many areas, but also said “our brand is worse than Trump.”
During a CNN interview tonight, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) told anchor Anderson Cooper that he agreed with Ryan’s sentiment, making sure to highlight that he’s the “longest serving independent in American congressional history” in the process.
“The Democratic brand is pretty bad,” the former Democratic presidential candidate stated.
However, he also wanted it to be known that both Trump and the GOP weren’t any good, either.
“I think the Trump brand is also pretty bad,” Sanders exclaimed. “As is the Republican brand. That’s why so many people are giving up on politics.”
