Hilarious Sand Sculpture Mocking New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for Shutting down the Beach and Then Using It

A mocking sand sculpture of Governor Chris Christie appeared on the Jersey Shore, just days after he was caught lying about sunbathing on a closed state beach.


The massive sculpture was in response to Christie's controversial weekend visit to a shoreline that was closed to the public because of a budget standoff.


Two local sculptors, only known as Larry and Tom, made the piece on the beach at Seaside Heights on Tuesday morning, according to lifeguards.


The sculpture came after Christie signed a final budget on Monday night, following a three-day government shutdown that closed beaches ahead of the holiday weekend.



The men who made the sculpture always commemorate Independence Day with a themed piece and last year made a sand sculpture honoring the 9/11 victims, according to NBC New York.


The sand art was depicting Christie lounging on a beach chair and a shark propped up next to him, with the words 'Beach Closed', 'I Love New Jersey and 'July 4th' on it.


Passersby took photos of the piece throughout the day until someone destroyed the sculpture later that evening.


Christie faced enormous backlash after the photo of him sitting on a beach with his family on Sunday went viral after state beaches were closed in a government shutdown.


Christie was snapped lounging in a beach chair at his governor's summer mansion in Island Beach State Park.



He had closed all of the state's parks due to the ongoing budget standoff, however his family was the only one on the ten-mile stretch of coastline.
