If you're anxious (hello), pageants like Miss Universe can seem a little terrifying. Get up in front of everyone and tell the world why you're great in all aspects of the word? Sure, fine, no big deal, the thought just makes us want to briefly breathe into a paper bag. So we've got nothing but respect for people who do go for it. They're a confidence master class, especially when it comes to contestants like Miss Universe Malaysia's Sabahan Evita Delmundo, who was born with moles all over her body—and hasn't let it hold her back in the slightest.
The 20-year-old, who goes by Evita, just auditioned for the pageant, and the story of how she got there is inspiring (to put it most mildly). First spotted by Elle Malaysia, Evita says that she was bullied growing up, with other kids calling her names like Monster and Chipsmore. As anyone would be, she says she "was really timid and shied away, as I didn't know how to deal with it all."
Thankfully, she says the bullying lessened later on, but she says it took going to church camp at 16 to help her "really learn how to love myself and communicate with others. That was probably the first time I truly started accepting who I was [and] how I look." And Evita says she did think about removing her moles, but after doctors told her removing them could affect her health, she says she "just had to accept that this is the body I've been given. But now I'm grateful I didn't change anything."
From her story, it seems like the world's better off for it. With 34,000 Instagram followers, Evita says her fans have told her that "they look up to me and see me as an inspiration. Knowing that I have such a positive effect on others really keeps me going." Which brought her to Miss Universe Malaysia: Evita says she wants to use the platform to showcase her uniqueness and newfound confidence and, hopefully, inspire others.
