Five Liverpool fans and four Manchester United supporters have been jailed after fighting inside Old Trafford.
The incident, which occurred on March 17 2016 during a Europa League knockout match, has been described as the 'worst disorder inside a football stadium in Manchester for 18 years'.
Sending all nine to prison, the judge described the men involved as 'intelligent' and 'hard-working' and said they succumbed to 'tribalism', reports the Manchester Evening News.
The 'ugly' incident, which was captured on film by police and members of the public, was sparked by away fans who'd booked seats in a stand reserved for United supporters and started chanting ‘provocatively’ in the 85th minute when their team’s triumph looked secure.
