A Star Wars-style helmet that detects enemies and repels flames and bullets is being used by the SAS in the war against terror.
Elite troops have dubbed the futuristic piece of kit the “Boba Fett helmet” after the Star Wars bounty hunter, who wore a very similar-looking one.
But the real thing is even stranger than science fiction, air-conditioned to protect against heat and gases, and with a “friend or foe” device that picks up signals from other wearers.
And if conditions are on the dark side, there is an “infra-red” setting using heat-seeking technology to help the crack troops pinpoint enemies.
The helmet is equipped with a GPS system that can bring maps up on to the visor to help troops check positions.
