Pioneering Saturn probe Cassini has plunged to destruction into the planet's atmosphere.
Nasa scientists planned the spectacular suicide dive to end the £2.9 billion mission, which has lasted 20 years and delivered a treasure trove of discoveries.
At 12.55 pm UK time radio contact with the 22ft long nuclear-powered probe was lost as Cassini tumbled to its doom 930 miles above Saturn's cloud tops.
Plummeting at 77,000mph, in seconds it disintegrated into fragments and burned up.
