A pilot has died after a fighter jet crashed into the sea during an Italian air show, according to reports.
Horrifying footage of the crash has emerged online, showing the Italian Air Force F-2000A Typhoon diving straight into the sea.
The tragedy unfolded earlier today near the coastal town of Terracina, about 30 miles south of Rome.
The £110million jet reportedly lost power after performing a looping stunt.
The pilot, Captain Gabriele Orlandi, is apparently dead, according to numerous reports in the Italian and Maltese press .
The 36-year-old failed to eject from the jet and the Italian Air Force has ordered an official inquiry into the crash.
Roberta Pinotti, the Italian defence minister, joined Air Force officials in extending their condolences to the pilot's family.
