Mars is the next giant leap in the global space race - and Lockheed Martin is sprinting for the finish line.
The aerospace company is joining the likes of SpaceX in aiming to send people to the Red Planet. And the first stage involves putting a spaceship similar to the International Space Station (ISS) in orbit around Mars.
Known as the "Mars Base Camp" , this interplanetary ship will act as an orbiting outpost and science lab, staffed by up to six astronauts.
These astronauts will be able to perform real-time scientific exploration, analyse Martian rock and soil samples, and confirm the ideal place to land humans on the surface in the 2030s.
