The clip shows a massive explosion from the water before rubble and ash soar into the sky, sending a huge wave towards Auckland in New Zealand.
The visualisation was created as part of research undertaken by volcanologist Professor Colin Wilson into the threat posed to New Zealand by a super-volcano eruption.
His studies have found that a volcanic eruption in the Hauraki Gulf would destroy anything within a 2.5km radius and severely hinder transport networks.
