A prisoner launched a terrifying attack on his guard by trying to brutally stab him in the chest as the pair walked into the jail.
The unnamed convict had hidden a screwdriver in his sock and as soon as the guard's back was turned he ran towards him.
CCTV footage shows the guard turning away from the prisoner for a moment to open a door.
The guard, suddenly fighting for his life, manages to fight back in the brief but vicious struggle.
The unnamed convict was filmed attacking the guard in a prison called Nafha, near the town of Mitzpe Ramon in the south of Israel.
The convict tried to run off but is believed to have been restrained shortly afterwards.
The guard only suffered light injuries.
The prisoner was a Hamas member, whose original offence was not reported.
He was said to be at the start of a two-year sentence.
Palestine media said that the man had been given an additional two years for his attack on the guard.
