An anti- gay marriage activist has been allegedly threatened and assaulted on a bridge, declaring: "I'll f***ing smash your face".
Bobby Lupo, 28, and a fellow demonstrator also against changing Australian law to allow same-sex marriage were confronted in Melbourne as they held "You can say No" signs.
A man wearing a black shirt threatened to assault the pair, a video recording reveals.
The man can be heard saying: "I'll f***ing smash your face in".
The man allegedly pushed Mr Lupo in the chest.
Filming the incident on his phone, Mr Lupo responded: "Stay away from us, sir. Stay away.
"Help!"
Australia has been gripped by an at times divisive campaign over same sex marriage during the postal vote survey ordered by the national government.
The incident occurred just before 7pm on Tuesday on the Eram Road overpass at Box Hill North, in Melbourne's east.
Mr Lupo said in a Facebook post: "I was attacked on Tuesday on a walking bridge over the Eastern Freeway.
"A man stood watching me as we were displaying a Coalition for Marriage poster to the passing cars.
"Then suddenly he passes me by bumping into me, then he started making threats and pushing me around.
"I feared he may push me off the bridge, it was terrifying.
"Eventually some passers by protected me and I was finally able to call the police away from the bridge."
