When a drunk beat up a stranger on a Bronx subway train in front of the victim’s three small children, fellow straphangers sprang into action, kicking him until cops arrived, police sources said Friday.
Ramel Jefferson went berserk on a Manhattan-bound No. 6 train near the Hunts Point Ave. station about 7:15 p.m. Thursday, and menaced a 29-year-old stranger with a bottle for no reason, sources said.
As the victim’s 8-year-old son and two daughters, just 1 and 4, watched in horror, as he socked the woman in the face and dragged her by her hair. He shoved her into a pole and a bench, sources said.
Shocked straphangers stepped in, pulled him away from the mom and threw him to the ground, where they kicking and punching him while he was down, authorities said.
Cops arrived moments later. Cell phone video posted online by a passenger shows Jefferson, 58, struggled with police trying to arrest him. He was drunk and taken to Lincoln Hospital for a swollen lip, police said.
