Harrowing footage has emerged of a tiny defenceless kitten having a concrete block hurled at it in a sickening attack.
In the clip, a young girl can be seen throwing the concrete block at the terrified animal several times while she is encouraged by people laughing close by.
After the heartless attack the kitten is left for dead, while a girl off camera can be heard saying "put it on the concrete or else it won't f****** die".
The footage is believed to have been filmed in Invercargill, on the South Island, New Zealand, and has already been shared almost 250,000 times.
A young girl can be seen hurling the kitten onto a patch of grass before another person throws a block of concrete at it.
Animal rights groups have now called for those responsible for the sickening attack to be publicly named and shamed.
Paw Justice wrote on Facebook: "We made the very hard call to post an horrific video of a kitten being stoned to death. We did that because we know sometimes the hardest truths are the only ones that get results.
"You cannot un-see what you have seen, and we cannot undo what has been done to that little kitten. Animal abuse is an ugly, messy reality and we believe the fight must be made public."
Furious viewers responded to the footage being shared on social media.
Ainslie Jalfron said: "This is where the law must upheld to the fullest extent to denounce and deter this despicable behaviour. And these kids need a serious intervention along with their punishment."
Helen Anderson added: "As the offenders of this horrific act of cruelty are all underage, their parents should be held accountable for their actions and prosecuted."
And Karina O'Brien said: "RIP little kitty my heart is heavy with sorrow for an innocence life so violently taken. I hope justice is served and these cruel vile beings are punished properly."
