The Senate's newest Democratic senator told CNN's Jake Tapper that Trump should not resign.
Senator-elect Doug Jones (D-AL) defended President Trump in an appearance on CNN on Sunday from demands that he resign due to the sexual misconduct allegations made against him.
Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) encouraged Trump to step down this week, citing Sen. Al Franken’s (D-MN) resignation following accusations of sexual harassment.
“Those allegations were made before the election, and so people had an opportunity to judge before that election,” Jones said. “I think we need to move on and not get distracted by those issues.”
“I don’t think that the president ought to resign at this point,” he added. “Those allegations are not new.”
