In a Thursday press conference, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) attempted to condemn the Republican tax reform bill by comparing it to the novel Frankenstein, but botched key plot and character details.
"It's a monster–a Frankenstein–and anybody who's familiar with Frankenstein knows it was a creation, a monster that was created," Pelosi argued.
"Do you know the ending of Mary Shelley's story? The monster comes back to destroy," she added.
"Frankenstein" is the name of the scientist in the original Mary Shelley story, and "Frankenstein's monster" or "the Creature" is the name of the actual monster. It was only in later adaptations that "Frankenstein" became common shorthand for the monster itself.
The story also doesn't end with the creature coming back to seek revenge on Dr. Frankenstein. The conclusion features the creature fleeing to the North Pole while being chased by his creator.
The book ends (spoilers!) with the monster weeping over Frankenstein's body, renouncing evil, and committing suicide by abandoning himself on an ice floe.
