The world's largest amphibious aircraft - which is roughly the size of a Boeing 737 -completed its maiden flight today.
China's domestically developed AG600 flew over the South China Sea after taking off from Zhuhai airport in the southern province of Guangdong.
The aircraft, codenamed Kunlong, returned about an hour later and taxied to its stand accompanied by martial music and greeted by crowds waving Chinese flags.
The aircraft is the latest step in China's advanced military modernisation programme amid a series of territorial disputes in places such as the disputed South China Sea.
