The Niagara Falls has FROZEN in parts amid the bitter cold snap sweeping much of the USA - where the wind chill factor has dropped as low as -89°F (a staggering -67°C).
And with temperatures expected to drop even further, New Year's Eve revellers are preparing for the coldest celebrations imaginable.
The torrid conditions are being blamed on a torrent of Arctic air that poured into many parts of the United States this week and tightened its grip on Friday.
While it made for picturesque scenes in such places as Niagara Falls - the collection of three waterfalls which straddle the border between the USA in the state of New York and Canada in the province of Ontario - it brought record cold to some spots.
The bitter temperatures have been blamed on several people dying and a myriad of road accidents - plus there are reports of dogs, turtles and even sharks freezing to death.
