Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) blamed Republican donors like brothers David and Charles Koch for the current federal shutdown in a video posted to Twitter on Monday, leaving out the fact that he and his Democratic colleagues were the ones who voted for the shutdown.
Standing in front of the Library of Congress, the socialist senator attacked Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the Koch brothers for their alleged efforts to engineer the shutdown
.
“Let me give you the story behind the story,” he said. “The Koch brothers are the second wealthiest family in America. They have put many, many, many, many hundreds of millions of dollars into the Republican Party. They do not believe the government should be providing services to the American people.”
Sanders accused the Republican donors of wanting to gut programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
“I think [the government shutdown] is part of the long-term, anti-government ideology paid for by the Koch brothers and other billionaires,” he added.
However, the Vermont senator forgot to mention that he and his Democratic colleagues voted against continued funding for the federal government Friday night. By his logic, is Bernie Sanders a tool of the Koch brothers?
