Two dead and gunman at large in shooting at Central Michigan University

Central Michigan University is on lockdown after two people were shot dead in a dorm.



Michigan State Police troopers told the Detroit Free Press that the victims were shot on the fourth floor of Campbell Hall, a co-ed residence hall, shortly after 9am.



The school tweeted that the two victims were not students and that police 'believe the situation started from a domestic situation'. No other people were injured.



Police have swarmed the Mt Pleasant campus looking for the gunman, who remains at large.



The suspect has been identified as James Eric Davis Jr., a 19-year-old black man. Davis is about five-foot-10, has a slight build, short hair and was last seen wearing yellow jeans, a blue hoodie, and a pistol tucked into his belt.



He should be considered armed and dangerous, local police say.



Police are working to get a picture of the suspect and believe the teen was released from a hospital this morning just before 8am, the Morning Sun reports. It's unclear what he was getting treatment for.



The gunman was last seen near some train tracks on the northwest side of campus.



Just before 11am, cops were searching for the gunman in the area around the Northwest Apartments, between High and Bellows Streets, heading east towards Mission Street.



SWAT teams have allegedly surrounded an apartment building in the Cherry Creek Apartments complex on Preston Street, according to NBC 25.



The school posted to their Facebook Friday morning around 9:30am, telling students to shelter in place and avoid the area around Campbell Hall. Classes have been cancelled for the day.



An automated phone message from the school also was sent to students Friday morning.



Surrounding schools, hospitals and offices have also been placed on lockdown.



Friday is the last day of classes for Spring Break, so many parents were headed to the campus to pick their students up today.



The school has asked that parents stay away from campus for now. They have been asked to gather at the Comfort Inn on Mission Street until it's safe to reunite with their kids.



Central Michigan University has about 23,000 students in Mount Pleasant, which is about 70 miles north of Lansing.



Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder tweeted that he is in 'constant contact' with the state police over the matter.



'The priority right now is the safety of those still on campus and I thank all first responders involved for their swift action,' Snyder said.
