At least 50 people are dead after a passenger plane carrying 71 people crashed and exploded into flames onto a football ground near the airport in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Witnesses said the US-Bangla Airlines plane made an "unexpected" turn moments before it crashed next to Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal's capital.
The head of Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal revealed the plane landed at the wrong end of the airport's single runway, while a chilling audio recording suggested there was confusion in the cockpit.
An army spokesman told Reuters that 50 people were killed when the plane carrying 67 passengers, including two children, and four crew went down.
Dramatic photos captured by witnesses showed the desperate effort to rescue victims from the burning plane as a huge cloud of smoke billowed into the sky following Nepal's worst plane crash in decades.
