Students hid in a closet following reports of a gunman on the loose at a university in the United States.
Northwestern University in Evanston near Chicago, Illinois issued an alert at 2.39pm (local time) warning anyone on campus to seek shelter.
They then tweeted: "Person with gun on Evanston campus. If on campus, seek shelter in safe place and stay until further notice. Others keep away."
They then sent a follow up tweet: "Police continue to investigate a reported incident at Engelhart Hall. Remain sheltered or avoid the area."
The university later confirmed the reports were a hoax and that police were investigating.
