An evil killer who abducted, raped and murdered an 11-year-old girl may dodge the death penalty after a change in Florida law.
Chilling CCTV footage captured the moment Joseph Smith, then aged 37, snatched Carlie Brucia outside a carwarsh as she walked home from school in 2004.
He was arrested but initially refused to admit what he'd done to police.
Fortunately, Smith had confessed to someone else and heartbroken officers found the schoolgirl's body in woodland behind a church in the city of Sarasota.
