A man has been caught skinning a husky dog, allegedly planning to sell the animal's meat to be used in doner kebabs.
When shocked teenagers saw him butchering the dog in Chelyabinsk, Russia, they called the police who then detained the man.
The man, who is in his 20s and an illegal immigrant from Kazakhstan, was named only as Nikolay.
He told police: "When I lived in Kazakhstan, there were a lot of dogs , and it was normal to cook the meat on a barbecue and eat them.”
He confessed: “I used a wire to strangle the dog.
“I was given the animal as payment for a job.”
After spending the night in police cells he was released and returned to the scene to collect the dog's body which he had strung up on a wall.
While doing so he was stopped by animal activists.
He told anti-cruelty campaigners he had killed “hundreds of dogs and sold the meat to a fast food kebab takeaway chain” in the city.
The activists are now demanding that police launch a criminal investigation.
A source said the man likely faced deportation to Kazakhstan.
