From capturing hidden galaxies and galactic cannibalism to spotting the most distant star ever, NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has helped scientists keep a close eye on the distant cosmos.
Now, to mark the 28th anniversary of the Hubble's historic launch, NASA is giving us a peek into a vast stellar nursery, the Lagoon Nebula.
Scientists released the image in advance of the telescope's anniversary on April 24.
Resembling a vivid watercolor painting, the photo captures an immense, blindingly bright star emerging from its cosmic nest in a burst of ultraviolet radiation and stellar wind.
