The Bible is one of the most overrated books of all time, according to a recent article by GQ Magazine.
The article, written by "the editors of GQ," ranks the sacred text No. 12 on the list of 21 books "you don't have to read."
"Those who have read it know there are some good parts, but overall it is certainly not the finest thing that man has ever produced. It is repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish, and even at times ill-intentioned," the article states.
Fox News religion contributor Father Jonathan Morris called the list and ranking "foolish" and that "it's a shame."
"I think what [GQ] is trying to do is say, 'Hey listen, we need to go [in] a very different direction,'" Morris said.
Other books on the list include "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," "The Old Man and the Sea" and "The Catcher in the Rye."
The top-ranked book it says doesn't need to be read is Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry.
