Hillary Clinton brought a prop to her speech in front of graduating seniors at Yale’s Class Day: a Russian hat. Clinton, who graduated from Yale Law School in 1973, pulled out the hat in a nod to the tradition of students wearing outlandish headgear to the end-of-year celebration. “Now I see looking out at you, that you are following the tradition of over the top hats,” Clinton said. “So I brought a hat too… A Russian hat.” Her joke prompted laughter from the class of 2018. However, one CNN reporter thought the move smacked of sour grapes.
“It shows that Hillary is still around. Perhaps, still has a little bit of bitterness and sourness over what happened,” CNN Political Reporter Jeremy Herb said after viewing the clip of the Russian hat gag. “Russia, it’s not going anywhere, that’s for sure.” New York Times Politics Editor Patrick Healy agreed. “She could have done a lot more blunt things…you know it’s a good visual for her, but it’s still, it’s very much between Russia and Comey, I don’t think that’s something that at least people around the Clintons say she’s been able to get over and move on from,” he said, before noting Clinton, like others, wants to see what Special Counsel Robert Mueller will ultimately uncover in the Russian probe.
