At a fire, Rescue 1 is tasked with Rescuing both civilians and firefighters who may become trapped, making it crucial that they arrive quickly and not be slowed down in any way by drivers.
This driver can be seen waiting for a spot in front of a hydrant while Engine 53 Arrives at the scene of the fire.
Rescue 1 then arrives and proceeds to pull up behind the vehicle, intending to find a safe and easy way for their firefighters to exit their rig without blocking traffic or getting hit by a car.
The driver first waits for a passenger and then appears to consider taking the parking spot.
After I stopped filming I asked the man why he didn’t move and gave him a quick lecture on how drivers are supposed to pull away from emergency vehicles.
One firefighter, who I know personally, was injured in the fire and transported to the hospital. This video should prove to be a good learning experience for drivers, NEVER BLOCK EMERGENCY VEHICLES!
