These dramatic photographs and video show a 292ft (89m) wind turbine catching fire as thunderstorms hit Britain.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at the top of the turbine in Doddington, Cambridgeshire, at about 8am today – and parts of it have since broken off, with debris scattered across the surrounding fields.
Residents reported thunder and lightning overnight, but the cause of the fire is not yet known. Renewable energy firm Siemens Gamesa, which operates and maintains the turbines, said its engineers were investigating.
It comes as parts of England are facing yet more weather misery tomorrow as further thunderstorms bear down along with hail, flooding and more than a month's worth of rain.
Forecasters have warned of 'frequent lightning and large hail' along with up to 3.1in (80mm) of torrential rain in as little as three hours over the South, Midlands and Wales that could bring flooding to homes and disrupt travel.
