An 18-year-old scooter rider is recovering in hospital after falling asleep at the handlebars of his vehicle and slamming straight into a roadside electricity transformer.
The accident, which was filmed on the dashcam of a nearby car, captured the moment the man fell asleep as he guided his scooter downhill near the town of Puli in central Taiwan.
The man, known as Wang, is seen driving in the middle of the road before the vehicle veers to the right.
Before he can correct it, the scooter slams into the metal electrical utility box, causing him to fly off and slam straight into the metal structure.
The driver filming the incident called an ambulance which rushed him to the nearby Taichung Veterans General Hospital.
