Scores of victims electrocuted in street during South China storms

Tropical storm Ewiniar, which formed in the northwest Pacific, made landfall in Hainan and Guangdong last Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to many areas in southern China.



A and daughter were killed during the downpour in Foshan, a city in Guangdong, on Friday by faulty electric wiring on an advertising hoarding at a bus stop.



A of the two lying in the water has been reshared thousands of times on local social media. All the power at bus stops throughout the district was later turned off as a precaution.



A seventeen-year-old student was also killed on Friday while crossing the road in Guangzhou. An initial investigation indicated that the youth died from an electric shock after a nearby electric power supply box had flooded. Electricity in certain areas of the city was subsequently cut off.



A man was found dead in the city of Zhaoqing on the same day after suddenly collapsing to the ground while walking in pooled water. Police used a stick to drag the man from the area as a precaution. The exact cause of his death is still under investigation.
