A teenager ploughed his BMW into five men after losing control of the car just days after passing his test.
Max Maxwell, 18, took his father's car without permission before mounting a footpath in Canvey Island, Essex, and crashing into the men who were all left with "life-changing physical and emotional injuries".
Maxwell, sentenced to three years and three months in a young offenders institution, had passed his driving test just one week before.
The vehicle swung onto the wrong side of the road before mounting the footpath and crashing into the pedestrians after overtaking at high speed as it approached a roundabout, Basildon Crown Court heard.
CCTV footage of the incident released by Essex Police shows the victims, who are all friends in their 20s, being knocked down and flung across the pavement before Maxwell climbs out of the car window.
Sergeant Steve Holmes said it was "a miracle" no one was killed.
