Two men were hospitalized after an argument turned bloody early Saturday on the Red Line heading south from Chicago’s Loop.
Police said a 24-year-old man shot an acquaintance in the stomach at about 12:15 a.m. as the train sped toward the CTA’s Cermak-Chinatown station.
Authorities said the man fired the weapon in self defense after the acquaintance began beating him following an argument.
The man who fired the gun was legally licensed to carry the weapon, according to police. As other passengers fled from the train while it pulled into the platform in the 100 block of West Cermak Road, police officers found the two men still in the car.
Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The 38-year-old man who was shot was listed in fair condition Saturday. No one was charged in the incident as of late Saturday.
