A lip reading expert has revealed what Theresa May was really saying to Brussels chief Jean-Claude Juncker in a furious row on the floor of the European Council.
Mrs May and the European Council President appeared to exchange tense words as EU leaders sat down for a round table in Brussels this morning.
The Prime Minister, clutching her handbag, appeared uncomfortable as Mr Juncker held her elbow as the pair talked.
The video does not include sound, but lip reading experts 121 Captions have translated the spat.
They say May is talking to Juncker about what she wants to get from the EU (or maybe from MPs at home)
MAY: I’m really struggling with being called nebulous
(Juncker obviously cannot hear, or can't understand the word and he moves his head forward)
MAY: NEBULOUS
(She says the word very carefully and has to repeat it a second time. The camera then moves round the back of them, but she seems to say:)
MAY: That is the problem, then we might be able to move….
JUNCKER – NO, no
(He touches her arm)
Another lip reading analysis suggests she said:
MAY: Nebulous. Yes you did.
Juncker: No, I didn't. I didn't.
