A 10-month-old child has been pulled alive from the rubble after a New Year's Eve gas explosion destroyed an apartment block in Russia.
The little boy, believed to be called Ivan 'Vanya' Fokin, was swaddled in a cot and survived in temperatures of minus 23C.
Dogs alerted rescuers who then heard crying among the devastation.
The child was found 17 hours after the last man to be discovered alive.
His condition is listed as “severe”.
Russia was today forced to take the agonising decision to suspend a hunt for up to 37 people buried beneath rubble after the New Year’s Eve gas explosion destroyed an apartment block in Magnitogorsk.
The structure is too unsafe to continue rescue operations until parts of it have been dismantled, emergency officials say.
