Footage that the Columbia Police department says is from an officer involved shooting shows an officer had barely exited his vehicle when several shots were fired in his direction. The suspect, Jamal Jamel Gardner, 47, has been added to TBI's Top 10 Most Wanted.
Police say Gardner was involved in a domestic assault on Saturday.
Later that day, a CPD officer initiated a traffic stop in the driveway of a home on the 400 block of west 13th Street in Columbia that Gardner reportedly owns.
The identity of the officer has not been released by the department, but he is believed to be uninjured. Details about the lead-up to the traffic stop have not yet been released.
Body camera footage from that officer released Monday by the department shows that he had barely exited his vehicle when several shots were fired in his direction.
The footage records the sound of more than 30 shots, first in rapid succession and then in shorter bursts. The officer can be heard reporting shots fired, and the audio includes the sound of fellow officers asking for more details on his location.
