Sky watchers gazed on as the Moon obscured the Sun in a total solar eclipse.
The spectacular event began at 17:55 BST and ran until 22:50 BST, but it could not be seen anywhere in the UK.
The position of the moon relative to the Earth means that the total solar eclipse was only be visible directly to observers in small parts of Chile and Argentina.
Some regions in the Pacific and in South America, including locations in Ecuador, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay will treated to a partial solar eclipse.
