A woman is dead and eight people injured after a horror fire broke out at a hospital complex and rapidly spread from balcony to balcony.
The blaze tore through a residential tower, which is home to staff at the Henri Mondor hospital on the outskirts of Paris, at about 11pm on Wednesday.
Witnesses reported hearing an "explosion" as the fire spread and there were fears that residents were trapped inside.
Firefighters found the woman's body as they spent hours battling the inferno which apparently started on one of the upper floors.
The flames spread across several floors and shot several feet into the air as they consumed the exterior of the block in the suburb of Creteil.
