A woman suffered severe burns after jumping into an incense ash pit in a desperate bid to light up the unburned joss paper.
The worshipper, known by the surname He, was paying respects to her ancestors and deceased family members when visiting Xiangshan Temple in Pingdingshan, central China last month.
She was burning joss paper, also known as ghost money, and realised a large pile of it remained unburnt.
Ms He decided to jump into the pit to ignite the papers again.
